About Mitsubishi Cars

Mitsubishi Motors is in fact a subsidiary company of the Mitsubishi group which specialises its business in various industries including electronics, mining and ship construction. Specifically however, Mitsubishi motors were founded in April 1970 and are currently headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. The company does however have its origins date back to at least 1917 under Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co. which introduced the Model A.

From 1937 to 1970, Mitsubishi motor manufacturing went to their Aircraft Co. business and continued to create various models including the PX33 which was the first Japanese built passenger car with a four wheel drive system. During the 1940s, the company had to contend with the Second World War and went away from motor manufacturing to help in the Japanese war effort.

By the 1960s, the Mitsubishi motoring departments had expanded as worker wages rose and the idea of family motoring became more popular. By 1967, the company's output was over 75,000 vehicles annually, preceding the company's launch of the Galant model in 1969. In 1970, a new company as it is known today was created; shortly after attracting the attention of U.S. manufacturer Chrysler which purchased a 15% share.

Since then, Mitsubishi Motors have formed alliances with various motor manufacturers including Volvo and PSA Peugeot Citroën. Despite troubles over the years, the company has continued to produce both SUV vehicles for both American and Japanese markets primarily. In 2012 however, the company announced the closure of its European planets due to the economic climate. It does however hope to launch eight hybrid and battery powered models by the year 2015.
