About the Saab 9-3
This executive car began with the 1998 model, when the 9-3 replaced the Saab 900. The launch of the 9-3 fell closely after its more spacious relation, the 9-5 and offered an alternative to the likes of BMW. Initially available as a three of five door hatchback or two door convertible, the 9-3 also had a number of trim levels, four engines and was one of the first cars in its class to have a Euro NCAP crash test rating. The ‘Viggen’, an enhanced performance version of the 9-3, went on sale in 1999 and was the first to use Saab’s Trionic seven engine management system. Despite a Saab buyout to National Electric Vehicle Sweden, which heralded a revival of the 9-3, the model ceased production.
