About Subaru Car Engines
Established in the 1950s in Japan, Subaru have a wealth of experience behind them in terms of engine production. Earlier models featured compact 997 cc EF10 and 1189 cc EF12 I3 engines as seen in the Justy, while the classic FF-1 Star took on a similar sized EA-61 , a flat-four, water cooled design. In recent years, newer models have seen larger engines including the 3.6 litre engine of the Legacy model, and in 2007 the manufacturer introduced the Subaru EE engine, a horizontally opposed, water-cooled, common rail turbodiesel, the first to be fitted to a passenger car.
