About Rover Car Gearboxes

Starting with the Rover 200, there was the option of a 5-speed manual gearbox or 3-speed automatic. The Rover 25, the model that superseded the 200, benefitted from the introduction of Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) gearboxes, with the ‘Steptronic’ semi-automatic system following in late 2000. The Rover 400 drove the front wheels using a jointly developed Peugeot/Rover R65 gearbox, and its predecessor, the Rover 45, had the added option of CVT. The well-liked Rover 75 came with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic gearbox.
