Starter Motor Info

A starter motor is fairly self-explanatory. As its name suggests, it is a part of the car that is heavily involved in starting the engine. Because of this, it is also one of the most common parts that fail due to wear and tear. It is also common for the solenoid inside the motor to stick; one of the ways in which this can be resolved is to tap gently with a hammer when the key is first turned. This can help to release it and the car will then start. However, if starter motor 'jams' are becoming a regular occurrence, then a replacement should certainly be considered.

The starter motor works by setting off a piston movement to kick-start the engine. It converts electrical power into mechanical power. The starter motor is located on the engine block and is easily replaced if it should fail. If any problems are noticed with it then it should be checked out as soon as possible.

Our breakers have quoted on 821 starter motors in the last 30 days. Popular makes requesting starter motors during that time have been Vauxhalls, Fords, Citroens, Nissans and Renaults. Quotes have ranged from £12.00 for a Vauxhall Agila 16v starter motor to £235.00 for a Nissan Navara starter motor.
