About Mercedes Cars

Mercedes-Benz is a German manufacturer of various vehicles, including cars, buses and lorries that are sold worldwide. The company has its origins back to the first purpose-built automobile in 1886, the Benz Patent Motorwagen, one of Karl Benz's inventions. The company has a long history of providing innovation to the car industry, being one of the world's oldest vehicle brands today.

The name Mercedes was added to the brand later due to company mergers, in honour of Daimler's 1901 Mercedes. Throughout the 1900s, the brand launched various models including the Mannheim 350/370 in 1929 and the 180 model in 1953. Since the 1990s, Mercedes-Benz has altered its vehicle designations so that the letter in each model name stands for a specific detail about that model. For example, the S class means that it is indeed a Luxury Sedan.

During the 1990s and early 2000s, the Mercedes-Benz brand was struggling with quality control which resulted it in being ranked 25th at one point in a quality study by J.D. Power. Many put this down to a significant amount of consumers having issues with their vehicles during the first 90 days of use. By 2007 however, quality significantly improved and eventually surpassed Toyota for the first time in that aspect. Since then, all Mercedes vehicles have been rated as above average in quality and reliability.

Today, the Mercedes-Benz division incorporates several car brands, including its own as well as Smart and Maybach. The manufacturer continues to produce automobiles for a variety of consumers worldwide, often being known as the #1 luxury brand.
