About Fiat Cars

'Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino' FIAT is one of the oldest car makers still in business today, founded in 1899 whom including Giovanni Agnelli. The first car to appear was the model 4HP. Post World War 2 several cars were introduced to the world market such as Nuova 500 and 600 with an incredible output of cars reaching 1751,000 from 1959-1969 including the Iconic FIAT DINO. In the 1970's FIAT suffered from strikes and bad car design. Also during this time, the name was tarnished further by the use of fit-for-purpose Rusty Russian steel, so suffering quality control issues, this, in turn, forced FIAT to pull out of North America.

FIAT became involved with Lancia in 1978 and Alfa Romeo in 1986 as well as Maserati in 1993. In the eighties, FIAT launched the Panda and Uno which both went on to be a success story and helped in building FIAT's reputation as being one of the most efficient set up.

In 1990 FIAT brought us further new models, Tipo, Bravo and Punto which became a record breaker in sales across Europe. In 2000 FIAT surprised the industry by merging with GM this brought us the new Grande Punto, a Punto ll which along with the Stilo did not do well. The success of the Grande Punto and the new 500 helped finally bring FIAT back in good shape which helped FIAT to merge with other companies and in 2009 take control of Chrysler.
